An outright homage to Wyeth, this is one of the first works to deal directly with a sense of danger in the home.
The darker areas of the composition should act like the shadows in a child's room. They should be pregnant with unseen threats. There are islands of safety but do not provide the viewer with any tangible comfort. There are no sheets on the bed, there are no curtains to close, and most importantly, there is no reflection in the mirror.
